  In the early days of Lancaster County water power was a significant source of energy. The many streams in the area were host to mills that ground grain, sawed lumber and machined iron. Some of these mills lasted into the 20th Century. The refuse of these mills have a history to tell and that story has been researched by Dr. Dorothy Merritts of F&M’s Earth and Environment Department.
